SWIC Condensate Piping Replacement Phase 1

VT Design Solutions provided MEP Engineering and Design services to replace over 400 feet of underground direct bury steam and condensate piping at Procter & Gamble’s Sharon Woods Innovation Center near Cincinnati, Ohio. Phase 1 replaced the piping from the Administration Building to the existing steam pit. Prior to executing the design, VT Design Solutions performed a feasibility study and recommended that the new piping be run in an underground shallow pre-cast trench system. The top of the trench system follows the contour of the terrain. Access covers / lids are provided in the top to provide access to the piping and other components. Heavy duty lids, capable of handling truck traffic are provided where the trench goes under the roadway. System design included new concrete piers and anchors, pipe supports that are embedded in the trench bottom, trench drain piping, controls to sense any water in the trench, sump pumps at the pit, and expansion joints in lieu of expansion loops, which were typically installed by the client.

SWIC Condensate Piping Replacement Phase 2

VT Design Solutions provided MEP Engineering and Design services to replace over 900 feet of underground direct bury steam and condensate piping at Procter & Gamble’s Sharon Woods Innovation Center near Cincinnati, Ohio. Phase 2 replaced the piping from the Utility Building to the Administration Building and several other buildings. All new underground piping is run in an underground shallow pre-cast trench system. The top of the trench system follows the contour of the terrain. Access covers / lids are provided in the top to provide access to the piping and other components. Medium duty lids, capable of handling lawn mowers are provided. The top of the trench also functions as the pedestrian walkway. System design included new concrete piers and anchors, pipe supports that are embedded in the trench bottom, trench drain piping, controls to sense any water in the trench, and expansion joints in lieu of expansion loops, which were typically installed by the client. Project was coordinated closely with a concurrent electrical being executed at the same time. The trench was sized and specified to accommodate the electrical requirements of that project.

CETL Compressed Air Dryer Replacement

VT Design Solutions provided MEP Engineering and Design services to replace two compressed air dryers at Procter & Gamble’s Corporate Engineering Technology Labs (CETL) near Cincinnati, Ohio. Existing system had two dedicated compressors, two dryers, and two receivers. New design was based upon client criteria that new air dryers must be “non-electric regenerative”, ability to feed either dryer from each compressor, and maintaining the location of the existing air compressors and air receivers, two new 500 cfm heatless desiccant dual tower air dryers were installed and new piping configuration was simplified by eliminating obsolete piping and valves. Controls were upgraded including new dewpoint and flow sensors to indicate which air compressors is feeding which air dryer, along with alarms to external sources during off operational hours.
