Sinclair Community College

Building 4 High Efficiency Hot Water System (Boiler Replacement)

VT Design Solutions provided MEP Engineering and Design services for the replacement of a hot water boiler (one of two) located in the basement of Building 4 at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. Existing system consisted of two 25 MMBH boilers, (one operating mostly as a back-up) and a primary pumping system. Client could only replace one of the boilers at this time and needed to maintain operation of the 2 during the demolition and installation phases. Project also offered a unique challenge of designing a system around a very limited access route to get equipment in and out of the basement. VT Design Solutions performed a feasibility study and recommended replacing the one 25 MBTU boilers with four 8,000 MBH variable speed high efficiency boilers and a variable speed primary pumping system. This design provided more operating flexibility by better controlling the number of boilers operating to meet the demand required. Project scope also replaced all piping, vent stack, electrical, and controls.

Sinclair Community College

Building 9 Boiler Replacement

VT Design Solutions provided MEP Engineering and Design services for the replacement of two gas fired hot water boilers located in the basement of Building 9 at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. Existing system consisted of two boilers, (one operating mostly as a backup) and a primary / secondary pumping system. VT Design Solutions performed a feasibility study and recommended replacing the two 1,360 MBH flex tube boilers with three 1,000 MBH variable speed condensing boilers and only a variable speed primary pumping system. This design provided more operating flexibility by better controlling the number of boilers and pumps operating to meet the demand required. Existing domestic hot water system consisting of a gas fired hot water tank was replaced with a hot water heat exchanger and circulation pump. Project scope also replaced all ancillary equipment, piping, vent stack, combustion air, electrical, and controls.

Sinclair Community College

Building 5 Air Handler Replacement

VT Design Solutions provided MEP Engineering, Design, and Construction Administration services for the replacement of four air handling units in Building 5 at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. Air handling unit’s capacity ranged from 20,000 to 25,000 cfm each and are located in separate roof penthouses and service different portions of the building. Project offered two unique challenges:

  1. Replacing existing units with new units equipped with similar features and functionality and a 20% capacity increase while fitting into a limited space.
  2. Construction access to roof was limited due to structural limitations of the surrounding plaza level.

Each unit, along with VFDs and panels, and external return air fan were completely demolished and replaced with new. Exhaust fans, penthouse dampers / actuators, ductwork, and piping were replaced as needed. System also included replacement of the radiant hot water heating pump and piping system. Project scope also included new electrical starters, disconnects, wiring, penthouse lighting, and new system controls.

Sinclair Community College

Building 3, 4, & 6 Restroom Renovation

VT Design Solutions provided MEP Engineering and Design services for the renovation of all restrooms in Buildings 3, 4, and 6 for Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. All buildings were multi-level and with multiple restrooms on each floor. All sanitary, waste, vent, and supply piping was demolished and replaced with new. Each restroom was upgraded with new sustainable low water flow fixtures, high efficiency hand dryers, lighting, and receptacles. As part of the design, VT Design Solutions researched and presented Sinclair with various sustainable options such as fixture type, water flow rates, lighting fixtures, and sensors. VT Design Solutions also performed an analysis of the existing HVAC and electrical systems to verify compliance with applicable codes.

Building 1, 5, & 7 Restroom Renovation

VT Design Solutions provided MEP Engineering and Design services for the renovation of all restrooms in Buildings 1, 5, and 7 for Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. All buildings were multi-level and with multiple restrooms on each floor. All sanitary, waste, vent, and supply piping was demolished and replaced with new. Each restroom was upgraded with new sustainable low water flow fixtures, high efficiency hand dryers, lighting, and receptacles. VT Design Solutions also performed an analysis of the existing HVAC and electrical systems to verify compliance with applicable codes.

Sinclair Community College

Building 13 Snack Shop & Dining Renovations

VT Design Solutions provided MEP Engineering and Design services to renovate the Tartan Terrace Snack Shop area and the Culinary School Dining Hall located in Building 13 at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. Project MEP scope for the snack shop included new HVAC distribution ductwork and VAV boxes, along with substantial plumbing, fire protection, electrical and, tele-communications modifications. The dining hall scope included new HVAC distribution ductwork and VAV boxes, electrical modifications, and a new Multi-Media system.

Cincinnati State Technical & Community College

C & G-Wing Restroom Renovation 

VT Design Solutions provided MEP Engineering and Design services for the renovation of the C-Wing restrooms for Cincinnati State Technical & Community College in Cincinnati, Ohio. Restrooms were located on three floors and were completely demolished and rebuilt with totally different layouts. Installed all new fixtures, sanitary, waste, vent, and supply piping. Central exhaust fan and ductwork were replaced for the G-Wing. Each restroom was also upgraded with new low water flow sustainable fixtures, tempered faucets, hand dryers, lighting, occupancy sensors, switches, receptacles, and automatic door holders. VT Design Solutions also performed an analysis of the existing HVAC and electrical systems to verify compliance with applicable codes.

Wright State University

Student Union Air Handler Replacement

VT Design Solutions provided MEP Engineering and Design services for the replacement of the Student Union Air Handling Unit at Wright state University near Dayton, Ohio. The air handler and all surrounding ductwork and piping were replaced entirely, along with updated controls. The project also installed a new canopy hood and exhaust system for the nearby carpentry shop.
